The Activities of the SG
The work of approximately 27 working groups is one of the society's main means of achieving its stated objectives. Those working groups are divided into four subject areas. About 600 experts from science and business participate in them. The working groups are set up by the executive board, and each one of them is presided over by both a university teacher and a representative from industry.
In order to formulate statements on current problems in business economics and legislation, ad hoc expert working groups are nominated. Additionally, in the last few years, special working groups have defined university education requirements in the different fields of business economics.
The SG addresses the public at two main events, the "Deutscher Betriebswirtschafter-Tag" and the "Schmalenbach-Tagung". It also organises managerial meetings to promote discussions in small groups. Furthermore, expert meetings on topical subjects of business administration aim to reach a wider range of experts.
The SG's conferences and meetings are prepared by expert committees and commissions. The events serve as a forum both for committees and businessmen: The former can present the results of their work, and the latter have the chance to formulate current business problems.
The findings of the SG are published in the "Zeitschrift für betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung" (ZfbF), edited also in English as "Schmalenbach Business Review" (sbr), Fachverlag der Verlagsgruppe Handelsblatt, Düsseldorf, and in the "Reports on the Work of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft e.V." (SG).
